Drug Plan

There are numerous companies that offer Medicare Part D plans and they all must comply with federal requirements and submit their plan annually for approval by Medicare.

If you are on a Medicare Advantage Plan with built in drug coverage you do not need to get a Part D separate drug plan. If you have a Supplemental Plan you will tough need to add a Part D drug plan in order to get access to potential lower drug costs.

If you decide not to enroll in Part D during your initial eligibility window you then have to wait for a future enrollment period. This means you could be without coverage for months and could be exposed to potential high drug costs.  You will also be assessed a penalty when you do decide to enroll. The only exclusion to the penalty is if you decided not to enroll because you had other creditable drug coverage in force.
